Credit, Debit & Prepaid Visa Cards: The Best Way to Play Poker Online

Who uses cash anymore?

Not I, says the online poker guy.

Okay, okay – you can’t use cash to play poker online anyway. But that’s not the point.

What is the point? It’s all about using plastic.

And there isn’t a more popular piece of plastic than Visa. It is the most widely accepted, convenient and fastest processing card in the world.

And you should be funding your poker account with it.

This page will show you how – and where.

The Best Visa Poker Sites

Here is our list of the best poker sites that accept both Americans and Visa bank cards.

What I like most about this particular list is that it’s less about the banking method (Visa) and more about what makes the sites great.

What do I mean by that?

Well, most of our lists are predicated on what rooms accept the banking method we’re talking about. This usually limits our choices since most methods are accepted at only a handful of rooms.

But not Visa – they’re accepted everywhere.

That means these rooms are truly the best of the best – the crème de la crème.

You’re welcome.

Now before we move on to the next couple of sections I want to warn you about the biggest downside or risk to using your Visa.

The declines.

Keep in mind that declines aren’t your poker site’s fault – it’s your bank’s fault.

The thing is they’re not supposed to clear payments to/from offshore poker sites because the UIGEA says it’s illegal.

Many payments still go through, sure, but it’s not something you should count on.

I still recommend having a backup deposit option in case something goes wrong. Just get some advice from our deposit hub.

How to Use Visa to Fund a Poker Account

In this section I’m going to explain how to use your Visa to make a deposit. But if you have ever shopped online before then you can probably skip this section.

So, to make your deposit just follow these steps:

  • Visit the cashier.
  • Choose Visa.
  • Enter your card number, expiration date and CCV code.
  • Enter how much you want to deposit.
  • Click submit.

That’s it.

Your deposit should hit your account instantly and you shouldn’t have to pay any fees.

Getting Your Hands on Prepaid Visa Cards

Prepaid Visas are a good option because you can use your (rejected) bank card to buy one. And the odds are just as good, if not better, that you’ll be able to make a deposit with it.

But this is becoming harder to do. You have to find a prepaid card that works.

What you want to look for are prepaid cards that are okayed to work for international payments. Otherwise your deposit will be declined.

The best thing to do is to buy a card, load a small amount onto it and test it out. If it works out, great, just load more money onto it.

There are several brands you can pick up – Green Dot, NetSpend and WirePlastic, just to name a few.

You can buy these just about anywhere – on Visa’s website or your local grocery, convenience and department store or pharmacy.

The Pros & Cons to Using Visa

Visa will be the best deposit option for most people. Not everyone. So I thought it would be helpful to include some pros and cons so you could decide for yourself.

Pros

  • Visa is accepted at more poker sites and casinos than any other banking method.
  • They still have a high acceptance rate despite banks frequently denying them.
  • There are no fees for deposits.
  • You can use Visa in other ways to make a deposit. For example, you can pay for money transfers, in-person deposits (legal poker sites), prepaid cards, etc. And that doesn’t include all the offline or free things you can do.

Cons

  • You can’t use Visa for withdrawals. You’ll have to request a check, wire transfer, instant check or bank wire instead.
  • Your deposit might be declined.

If it wasn’t clear it should be now – Visa is simply the best way to fund your account.

Should You Use Visa?

See above.

With a doubt, yes you should.

In fact, it should be the first banking method you try.

The worse case scenario is that your bank chooses to decline your deposit. But then you can try it again.

If that doesn’t work out the worse case scenario is that you need to find something else that will work. And there are plenty of options to choose from.

So stop diddle dawdling – choose a room and make your deposit now.
